The student angrily shot his geography teacher after discovering he had failed his matric exams.
The deputy principal of Phomolong High School in Tembisa was allegedly shot five times by a matriculant and two friends.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon when a teacher came out of the school gate in his car.
Three armed men appeared and fired three shots into the front window.
He then tried to get out of his car to avoid a hail of bullets but fell close to his car.
Another suspect allegedly shot him twice while he was lying on the ground before fleeing the scene.
The suspects did not take anything from the teacher’s car.
His colleagues told Scroll. Africa that the 50-year-old teacher was a special teacher, respected and always laughed.
“She was a sweetheart. His work was a priority and he made sure that the students got enough education about the subject he was teaching, ”said one of his colleagues, who asked not to be named.
Increasingly, teachers are increasingly at risk of being attacked, said a colleague.
“Schools these days are full of drugs and dangerous weapons. How can we be safe as a teacher? ” asked another teacher.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said he was disappointed by the incident.
“Our psychiatric unit will visit the school on Monday, January 24, 2022, to advise and support all those affected by the incident,” the statement said.
Rabie police spokesman Sergeant Dipulelo Moreri said the police investigation was ongoing.
