Despite a rising number of Covid-19 infections and the presence of a new Coronavirus type on the loose, schools are scheduled to open in January this year. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have come a long way, from extended school holidays to scheduled school attendance and vaccination requirements in some schools.

Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, has stated that schools will reopen on Wednesday, January 12th for inland schools and on Wednesday, January 19th for coastal schools with the start of the new year. However, everything will be determined by the Covid-19 epidemic. It is anticipated that teachers and principals will return to work around the 10th of January to begin preparing for the forthcoming school year.
