The Department of Basic Education’s overturned decision not to publish results was based on the POPI Act. But Afriforum argued that the Act was applied incorrectly.

BREAKING: #MatricResults The Basic Education Department has been ordered by the Pretoria High court to publish the matric results on all public platforms. This comes after Afriforum sought to review the decision on an urgent basis.

#MatricResults Part of the order says the publication of results should not reflect the first names and surnames of the pupils. This means that the usual process of using the unique exam number remains.

Judge Anthony Millar said not everyone has access to the internet. Secondly, there are some who are no longer living in the area where their high school is based and might not be able to access their results timeously or even at all to start tertiary.

The department should appeal this. Whether I stay in the same area or not, a matric statement needs to be fetched either way. And institutions of higher learning usually reply to applications without the need for a statement.

Happening Now: The Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi ) is briefing the media on the approval of the release of the 2021 national examination results.

Rakometsi: The class of 2021 was subjected to the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic for two consecutive years. This includes the hybrid model of teaching and learning and rotational classes.

Rakometsi: Umalusi appeals to all stakeholders involved in the examination process to refrain from engaging in such unscrupulous acts of dishonesty.

Rakometsi says Umalusi has approved the release of the 2021 national examinations results after successfully conducting the quality assurance of the conduct, administration, and management of exit point examinations.

Rakometsi: Specifically, Life Sciences and Agricultural Sciences papers were the affected subjects in those centers. “This practice can potentially compromise the integrity of examinations if it is not addressed decisively,”
