Educational Assistants planning to quit in large numbers because of this
The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative has given over 200 000 youth to gain experience by working as school assistants across schools in South Africa. A large number of people applied but only the lucky ones got the opportunity.
There is a group on Facebook, named ‘SA’s Educator and General School Assistants’. Participants share matters concerning the posts and any related issues. Those who got the opportunity keep sharing their experiences, how the life they are being treated at schools, and more.
Despite the reasonable stipend that the assistants get, some are not happy to be part of the program. Another participant went to the group saying she is not happy because she is not gaining experience in the program. Other participants flooded the comments sections as they couldn’t agree more because they could also relate. Others claim that they are being enslaved by teachers and they are not being taken seriously. Many of them are planning to quit, especially qualified teachers. They are the ones who are already fed up and it seems like they won’t endure it for the next coming four months. Below are Screenshots from the post.
