Teachers Ms Mkhize And Ms Kgatitsoe Were Shot Dead By Ms Mkhize’s Husband At The School Ground

The Johannesburg Department of Education has released the names and photographs of two teachers who were shot dead at Lekgalong Primary School in Ga-Rankuwa.

Vumile Mkhize (26), and Brenda Dimakatso Kgatitsoe (27), were shot dead by Vumile’s husband on the school grounds on Monday.

Brenda’s older brother, Mandla Kgatitsoe, said her sister died because she was Vumile’s best friend.

“We are still shocked as a family over the death of my sister. My mother was devastated by her death, ”said Mandla.

Mandla said his sister and Vumile lived in the same yard. He said Vumile had problems in his marriage and was about to divorce.

“While she was going to say goodbye to her friend, her friend’s husband locked them in the house and shot them,” she said.

Mandla said his sister, who has been a full-time teacher for two years, had a promising career waiting for him. He said he was a happy man and a man who told the truth.

“If he wasn’t happy with you, he would have understood you right away.”

Meanwhile, Vumile’s brother, Sbongiseni Buthelezi, said his sister was like a mother to him.

“Vumile was younger than I was but he took care of me and other family members as if he were older than the rest of us,” she said.

“Our mother died years ago but she did everything for us as she was like my mother. I will miss him very much. ”

Johannesburg Education Minister Panyaza Lesufi visited the two families and said the department was facing problems as death plagued the sector.

Lesufi also said that last week a pupil died on the school premises in Tsakane, adding to the number of two teachers who were shot dead and one shot dead by a police officer.

He emphasized the need for the state to address lawlessness in the country, especially in cases of violence against women and children.

“There is a need to find ways to protect women in communities from abuse and violence based on violence against women and children.
